The critical part is “what do you do once you have lost the weight?”

Eating breakfast is the most important meal of the day – true or false?  the answer will surprise you.

Exercise is important for weight loss  – true or false?  The fact is that you have to do a lot of exercise to burn enough calories to offset a muffin . Best to give the muffin a miss instead!  A 65 Kg woman would have to walk for 3 hours to burn off 1 muffin – thats a lot of walking!  In order to lose 1/2 KG of fat you would need to run 70 KM.

The other problem with exercise is “compensatory eating” which is rewarding oneself with fattening food after exercise.  Then there is “compensatory relaxing” which is taking it easy after exercise.

The biggest villain in obesity is sugar consumption.  Sugar consumption has increased dramatically since the 1970s.  Since then the incidence of diabetes has increased nearly 10 fold.

The average Australian child consumes their own weight in sugar every year.  The main culprits are sugary drinks and sugary cereals.

All in all and very interesting analysis of what works and what does not for weight loss.
