ACUPUNCTURE and NECK PAIN
Robina 7 Day Doctors recommends this video:
Neck pain is one of the three most frequently reported complaints of the musculoskeletal system. 70% of the adult population can recall experiencing an episode of neck pain or stiffness in their lifetime. Neck pain is usually a self-limited condition, but can be disabling to varying degrees.
How acupuncturing can help
acupuncture is effective in the short-term for the treatment of neck pain.
Conventional management includes advice to stay active and continue daily activities; exercise therapy; analgesics (e.g. paracetamol, NSAIDs, an opioid); Acupuncture can be used in conjunction with conventional treatments to accelerate improvement.
Acupuncturing can help relieve neck pain by:
- stimulating nerves located in muscles and soft tissues, which leads to release of endorphins and other neurohumoral factors. It changes the processing of pain in the brain and spinal cord
- reducing inflammation, by promoting release of vascular and immunomodulatory factors
- decreasing muscle stiffness and joint mobility by increasing local microcirculation which reduces swelling.
Acupuncture works on different pathways
The pathways which acupuncture uses are myriad, and in any 1 person or medical condition the pathways will be different, so we urge people to try treatment at least 6 times for their condition before evaluating. The outcomes for different conditions and different people makes it impossible to predict how any one person will respond.
