In our society it has become the norm to “pop a pill” when needing a pick me up, or booster etc.  However, as previously explained, the brain tries to adapt or compensate for any extraneous drug input into the brain.  Thus if a stimulant is introduced the brain will compensate by slowing the brain down.  The brain works on a feedback principle.  It does not like to be pushed out of balance and naturally tries to equilibrate itself.

The principle of acupuncture is the opposite of pill popping. It assists the brain as it tries to equilibrate itself.  The numerous neurotransmitters in the brain create our pattern of brain function. They are responsible for our personality traits. When there is an imbalance in the brain the neurotransmitter balance is altered.  Acupuncture helps the brain to establish a normal or natural balance.

Medications not a simple quick fix

The common case of serotonin stimulating medications as used in most anti-depressants is discussed.  It seems simple to just boost serotonin and produce a calming effect.  However when an artificial boost to serotonin  occurs the brain then compensates by reducing its own endogenous production of serotonin.  This has the opposite effect of acupuncture.  The brain becomes reliant on medication to keep the serotonin level steady.  Thus the patient cannot  stop the medication and continues to have side effect related symptoms.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the brain to produce its own neurotransmitters.  The brain will make the normal or correct ratio of neurotransmitters.  This will restore normal or natural function which is optimal for that particular person.
